There are many reasons for studying Spanish. Maybe you wish to travel to learn more about other cultures; or you just need to fulfill a language requirement at your school, or perhaps you will utilize the language in your chosen profession. Whatever your reason may be now, one sure thing is that you will in the future most likely find yourself in a real-life situation where your knowledge of the language will help you to better communicate at work, at home, or in your community.
Spanish is considered a global language because it's spoken by a diverse population of over 400 million people world-wide and is the second most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese. According to the US Census Bureau, Spanish is the main language of 12.85% of the residents, putting United States ahead of Spain in the rank of number of Spanish speakers in the world.
Spanish is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations. It is also used as an official language by the European Union, the Organization of American States, the Union of South American Nations, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the African Union, etc.
