What if I told you that in English language, the word capital has more than one meaning but it always has the same orthography.
The same thing applies to Spanish language, where some nouns have the same orthography (ortografía) but differ in meaning because of their genders.
Most of the times, as a beginner, one tends to mistake one word for the other thereby changing the context of the information disseminated which often gives rise to miscommunication or misunderstanding.

Some of these nouns in no particular order are:
El capital: capital (money)
La capital: capital of a country or a state
El canal: canal, channel (T.V, Rad,Telec), channel (drain), channel (distribution channel)
La canal: gutter, groove
El frente: front (of a building, military)
La frente: forehead
El editorial: editorial, leading article (en el periódico- newspaper)
La editorial: publishing company or house
El vocal: male member of a board
La vocal: vowel, female member of a board
El cura: priest
La cura: cure
El naranja: orange colour
La naranja: orange (the fruit)
El calavera: rake (a man who has many sexual relationships, drinks too much alcohol etc), reveller, madcap
La calavera: skull, tail light or rear light (vehicle)
El cólera: cholera (disease)
La cólera: anger, rage
El coma: coma (medical term)
La coma: comma (punctuation mark)
El cometa: comet
La cometa: kite (toy)
El corneta: male bugler
La corneta: bugle (musical instrument) or cornet, horn, female bugler
El corte: cut

El gallina: coward (man)
La gallina: hen, chicken, coward (woman)
El guardia: policeman

El guía: guide (man)

El mañana: future or tomorrow
